They prefer to stand up and stretch out to eat leaves and berries off the trees before going to the ground. Goats vs. Cows When I meet people and explain to them that I have goats, they always ask if I have either fainting or milking goats. The answer is no - I own South African Boer goats. Boer goats are specifically for meat production, not dairy production. Being ruminant animals is obviously the number one similarity, goats and cattle share this quality of breed-specific purpose.
For each species, you have a wide variety of breeds to choose from for production purposes. In beef production? Very important you have cobalt in your mineral. Without it, your goats cannot produce their own B vitamins. I had sick goats for 6 months until I realized my land provides no cobalt. Get a soil test to know for sure.
My husband and I are proud new owners of a withered billy goat that we have named John Boy. But in all honesty we have no idea what we are doing?
Hi We live in Bermuda and I almost bought a pair of goats this week but my realist husband said we werent ready. I would suggest getting a large dog house or a ft by 10 ft dog kennel. Other than that you don't really need to fence them up you can leash them just like dogs and just move the leash around every few days so they have new spots to graze.
In reply to I would suggest getting a… by Mike Lester. My goat looks at me like she loves me. Is this possible? Her name is Baby and I've had her three months. I have 2 Nigerian dwarfs, twins now 6 weeks. I have moss growing near their pen. Is this harmful or safe for them to graze? I am interested in getting a couple of Nigerian dwarf goats.
In reply to Hi! I am interested in… by Andrea. Question on why you say no garlic for goats -- when it can be used as a natural dewormer for goats. Some mix it with peanut butter and give them. You have to love them more tben your plants if you're going to have them. They almost always find a way out. The questions and answers have been interesting to read. I am not a fan of raising goats but have learned alot by reading the posts. We are proud owners of a Japanese potbelly pig and now a Nigerian dwarf goat that is pregnant.
Oh and we have 5 dogs , all the animals get along. MannaPro has been a stable for us. This was a question posed by one of our readers a few weeks ago.
It's a subject I've often thought about addressing. A common belief is that goats will eat anything. Many people imagine a goat eating a tin can.
A quick Google search brought back tales of goats eating the labels off tin cans because they liked the taste of the glue. At least for our goats. Prior to owning goats I too thought they'd eat anything. I figured that of all the grazing animals goats, sheep, cows, etc goats were the least discriminating.
Turns out goats are the MOST discriminating. They also like to eat a wide variety of grasses and forages, easily getting bored with one type of grass and quickly moving on to something else. You can't just plant a bunch of fescue, orchard grass, and other common grasses and get away with it. Notify of. Most Voted Newest Oldest. Inline Feedbacks. Beth Hstfield. View Replies 1.
